چکیده

Rightand left-handedness run in families, show greater concordance in monozygotic than dizygotic twins, and are well described by single-locus Mendelian models. Here we summarize a large genome-wide association study (GWAS) that finds no significant associations with handedness and is consistent with a meta-analysis of GWASs. The GWAS had 99% power to detect a single locus using the conventional criterion of P < 5 × 10−8 for the single locus models of McManus and Annett. The strong conclusion is that handedness is not controlled by a single genetic locus. A consideration of the genetic architecture of height, primary ciliary dyskinesia, and intelligence suggests that handedness inheritance can be explained by a multilocus variant of the McManus DC model, classical effects on family and twins being barely distinguishable from the single locus model. Based on the ENGAGE meta-analysis of GWASs, we estimate at least 40 loci are involved in determining handedness.

I-41: Genetic Causes of Premature Ovarian Failure (POF) and early Menopause

Premature ovarian failure (POF) is a heterogeneous disorder, defined as menopause under age 40 years. The prevalence is 1%; POF before age 30 years is much less common. Chromosomal causes have long been recognized - visible deletions of the X chromosome, 45,X/46,XX mosaicism, and autosomal rearrangements (balanced translocations). Toxins or iatrogenic causes (e.g., chemotherapeutic agents) are ...

I-40: Male Genome Programming, Infertility and Cancer

Background: During male germ cells differentiation, genomewide re-organizations and highly specific programming of the male genome occur. These changes not only include the large-scale meiotic shuffling of genes, taking place in spermatocytes, but also a complete “re-packaging” of the male genome in post meiotic cells, leading to a highly compacted nucleo-protamine structure in the mature sperm...

A meta-analysis of the association of the ACE I/D variant and COVID-19 susceptibility and severity

Background: Several studies investigated the association of ACE I/D polymorphism with the risk and severity of COVID-19 infection.  However, the information in each of the published studies is limited, and the results were inconsistent or even contradictory. Accordingly, this meta-analysis evaluated the association between the ACE I/D polymorphism and COVID-19 susceptibility and severity. Metho...

Forecasting GDP Growth Using ANN Model with Genetic Algorithm

Applying nonlinear models to estimation and forecasting economic models are now becoming more common, thanks to advances in computing technology. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) models, which are nonlinear local optimizer models, have proven successful in forecasting economic variables. Most ANN models applied in Economics use the gradient descent method as their learning algorithm. However, t...
